Musical car chase action movie Baby Driver was only released this summer, but its writer/director Edgar Wright is already planning a follow-up.

Wright had the idea for the first movie in the mid-1990s before he'd even kicked off his career, but he's racing in to a sequel it seems.

"Those talks are already in the works," Wright told Entertainment Weekly.

"The deal is being hammered out as we speak. So, hopefully, I'm going to at least write a second one."

He added: "I've definitely got lots of ideas. Whether it's the next movie, I don't know. I'm just working that out at the moment, actually.

"I have a couple of things that I've been developing, and also a couple of new ideas that I had, and all the nice things things that I've been offered since."

The director also said that he wanted to have a movie out in the next two years, though he didn't say that Baby Driver 2 would be that movie.

"I would like to get back on the saddle very shortly, because - slightly beyond my control - but there was four years between The World's End and Baby Driver ," he said.

"I don't want it to be that long again. I would love to have a film out in the next two years."

The circumstance beyond Wright's control was of course his controversially leaving Marvel's Ant-Man part-way through its production.

Wright wrote the first script for the comic adaptation with fellow Brit Joe Cornish.

He split from Marvel and the film because of "differences in their vision of the film" in May 2014, later being replaced as director by Peyton Reed.

"The one thing that was like a bright thing on the horizon was that I already had the Baby Driver script," said Wright.

"As soon as I had officially left the Marvel movie, I literally got an email from Working Title saying, Baby Driver next."
