The nominations for this year’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards are in, with nine acts competing to win the prize for this year’s best show.

The names include John Robins, who wrote a candid show about his break-up with fellow comedian Sara Pascoe. Her show, also about the break-up, did not receive a nomination (ouch).

Hannah Gadsby is nominated for what she says will be her final show before quitting comedy, and Mae Martin’s show about addiction is also on the shortlist.

Ahir Shah, Elf Lyons, Jordan Brookes, Mat Ewins, Sophie Willan and Spencer Jones make up the rest of the shortlist. The winner will receive £10,000.

Last year’s award went to Richard Gadd for his show Monkey See Monkey Do, which explored masculinity and his personal experiences with sexual assault.

The shortlist for this year’s best newcomer was also announced, with eight names on the shortlist. Up for the £5,000 prize are Chris Washington, Darren Harriott, Ed Night, Kwame Asante, Lauren Pattison, Lucy Pearman, Natalie Palamides and Rob Kemp.

The winners will be announced this Saturday (August 26).
