Edinburgh locals have been left baffled by a so-called 'ghost cafe' in the city centre.

The Main Street Beanery in Fountainbridge has been puzzling residents since the pandemic - with some claiming they have 'never seen it open'.

Taking to TikTok, one local said: "My Edinburgh Roman Empire? This ghost cafe.

"Don't think I've seen it open for about six years but it's always immaculately clean inside. Every Christmas they put up a tree and lights up."

Other residents flocked to the comments to share their confusion over the mysterious cafe that hasn't served people in years.

One said: "Not a day goes by I don’t wonder about this place."

Another commented: 'That’s still there? I used to work in the hotel across from there like three years ago!"

"It was open in 2018 because I went and had coffee there but I literally have never seen it open since," a third replied.

And a fourth said: "I live so close and have never seen it open in my life would love to go."

Meanwhile, someone did remember it being open as a cafe seven years ago and replied: "I lived around the corner on Tay street about seven to eight years ago and it used to be very busy."

The Main Street Beanery cafe registered as a company in July 2019 but shortly after it appeared the cafe closed when locals noticed they hadn't seen any customers inside - but that doesn't stop the Halloween and Christmas decorations appearing every year.
