Edinburgh road locked down as emergency services called to 'suspicious device'

Edinburgh residents have been urged to avoid a busy area after police were made aware of a potential 'ordnance item'.

Comely Bank Road is currently locked down by emergency services following a report made at around 3.15pm on Tuesday, July 2. As a result, buses are also being diverted from the scene.

Police have issued a statement urging people to avoid the area while emergency services carry out inquiries.

The force said: "We were made aware of a potential item of ordnance at Comely Bank Road in Edinburgh around 3.15pm on Tuesday, 2 July. Road closures are in place as a precaution and we would urge people to avoid the area while emergency services work in the area.

Lothian Buses have notified passengers of potential disruption on services 24 and 29. They said: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Comely Bank Road and are instead diverted via East Fettes Ave and Carrington Road in both directions until further notice."
