Edith Bowman reveals truth behind Cat Deeley relationship rumours

Edith Bowman has rubbished rumours that she was ever in a relationship with close friend Cat Deeley, explaining "we are in love, but as friends".

The radio presenter has been best pals with TV presenter Deeley for 20 years, but earlier in their friendship they were rumoured to be romantically involved - simply because they had left a bar worse for wear and holding each other up.

Speaking to Angela Scanlon’s Thanks a Million podcast, Bowman, 48, said: "Cat Deeley and I, who are still really good mates, we started MTV at the same time and we'd spent so much time just hanging out and going out."

Together, they presented Hitlist UK and Roadtripping, but Bowman spoke about what she called the "intrusive" experience of speculation about their relationship based on photos of them leaving the Met bar in the 90s.

She said: "We were really good mates, and we are really good mates still. And it was like, 'Oh, Cat and Edith are in a lesbian relationship'.

"Photographs of us kind of holding each other up, coming out of the Met bar or whatever was because we were p****d, it wasn't because we were like, licking each other's faces off.

"We are in love, but as friends kind of thing, It's so bizarre."

Bowman is married to Editors frontman Tom Smith and they have two children together, while Deeley, 45, is married with two children to presenter Patrick Kielty.

Earlier this month, the friends announced that they would be starting a new podcast where celebrities would be interviewed with their best mates about their relationships.

In a statement, they said: "We are so excited about our new project, Friends Will Be Friends. It's something we came up with that allows us to celebrate our own friendship while exploring the beautiful and unique relationships a friendship can be to us all.

"Ours has survived time, distance and working together for 20 years. Long may it continue."
