EF-0 tornado moves through Putnam County

Mar. 5—OTTAWA — Suspected funnel clouds went through Putnam County on Tuesday afternoon.

The storm included social media reports of property damage and debris along Road H-5, south of Leipsic.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office reported 9-1-1 calls in reference to a possible tornado that touched down in the area of 6142 Rd H-5 in Leipsic. According to a press release, when the Leipsic police chief and Putnam County Sheriff's deputies arrived, they found a heavily damaged structure. A homeowner at the residence said that no one was injured.

The National Weather Service was contacted and advised that this was an EF-O tornado with winds up to 65 miles per hour. The service also advised that nothing was seen on radar.

Tornado warning sirens went off in Ottawa just after 3 p.m. Tuesday, right after dismissal of Ottawa-Glandorf schools, according to the district's text alert system. Officials brought all the buses back to school buildings, with staff and students sheltering in place until receiving the all-clear after 3:20 p.m.

American Electric Power and Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative did not report any electrical outages as of 3:45 p.m.
