Eight-Year-Old Boy Dies In Cemetery Accident

An eight-year-old boy has died in hospital following an accident at a graveyard in Glasgow.

Sky News understands that a gravestone fell on Ciaran James Williamson at Craigton Cemetery in Cardonald on Tuesday.

He was pronounced dead at Yorkhill hospital after emergency services were called to the scene at 7.25pm.

Two other boys, aged 10, were also taken to hospital with injuries. One of the boys remains at Yorkhill in a stable condition while the other has been discharged from South Glasgow University Hospital after being treated.

Police are looking into exactly what happened but say they are not treating the matter as suspicious.

In a short statement, Ciaran’s family said: "We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that our son Ciaran James Williamson sadly passed away in a tragic accident at Craigton Crematorium.

"We would respectfully ask that you respect our privacy at this distressing time."

Detective Inspector Tom McKean, of Police Scotland, said: "This is such a tragic set of circumstances and our thoughts are with Ciaran’s family.

"Enquiries are ongoing however the incident is not being treated as suspicious and a full report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
