Elderly Civilians Helped Across Irpin River on Makeshift Bridge

Officials reported that over 1,000 people were evacuated by Ukrainian police from the town of Irpin on March 10, down from rates as high as 2,000 people in two hours earlier in the week.

To leave Irpin, people must cross the Irpin River near a destroyed bridge, which can be especially difficult for the elderly, as this footage shows.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, neighboring countries have accepted 2.5 million refugees from Ukraine and a further 1.85 million Ukrainians are internally displaced. An additional 12.65 million people are directly affected by the conflict, the UN said. Credit: Ukrainian Witness via Storyful
