Elise Christie hopes to return to the track on Tuesday for her favoured event as she bids to end her long wait for an Olympic medal.

Christie is expected to shake off damage suffered to her ankle in Saturday’s 1500m short track speed skating semi-final and target 1000m gold.

The 1000m world champion suffered a nightmare Games in Sochi four years ago, when she was disqualified from all three of her skating events.

And she has not fared much better so far in Pyeongchang.

The Brit crashed out of the 500m final last week before suffering the same fate in Saturday’s 1500m semi-final as she scrambled to qualify on the final bend.

She was stretchered from the track amid fears her Olympics were over, but is now hopeful she can to take her place on the start line for Tuesday’s heats.

Christie offered thanks on Sunday for the messages of support she has been receiving following her latest Winter Olympics calamity.

The Scot tweeted on Sunday morning: "Would like to thanks everyone for the support! You have no idea what it means to me! I have so much love for my country!"
