Emilio de la Morena unveils high-impact eveningwear collection at London Fashion Week AW18
On the final day of London Fashion Week, Emilio de la Morena rolled out the red carpet on the catwalk for his latest high-impact eveningwear collection.
Seeking inspiration from Barbara Streisand’s iconic 1983 musical Yentl, the Spanish designer sought to apply the tale’s gender fluid philosophy to his modern Iberian aesthetic.
As a result, masculine tailoring provided the backbone of the collection, with double breasted jacquard jackets featuring strong padded shoulders and waist-cinching belts. In stark contrast, these were teamed with micro mini skirts, ruffle-hem cigarette pants and faux fur collar coats embellished with crystal trims which cascaded from pockets.
Flounce-sleeve organza blouses, sheer floor-sweeping skirts and colour-block cage heels - manufactured in his hometown Alicante - were also among the uber-feminine touches which has become de la Morena’s calling card.
Best known for his architectural cocktail dresses, the Central Saint Martin’s alumnus has become a go to among the capital’s social style plates including model Leomie Anderson who wore a strapless white ruffle gown by the label at Vogue’s fashion week party on Sunday night.
Next season, frill-seeking night owls have their pick of lace body-cons, tiered ruffle cocktail dresses and structured brocade gowns in shades of teal and shocking pink.
