Emily Ratajkowski's diet: The model’s surprisingly normal food choices that keep her body in great shape

Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski maintains a seriously enviable physique. But while we’re used to seeing models and 'It girls' flaunt their raw eating plans and strict exercise routines, Emily Ratajkowski's diet is surprisingly low maintenance.

The 28-year-old appears to enjoy carbs and sugar, and once told The New York Times she doesn't have a personal trainer.

Has she simply won the genetic lottery equivalent of the Euromillions? It would seem so. Nonetheless, we couldn't resist taking a closer look at what she does eat during a typical day.

About that espresso life

First thing? Coffee and carbs.

"Every day I go to Blacktop Coffee and get this pastry called kouign-amann with my black coffee," she told Harper's Bazaar.

For those who don’t visit LA’s pastry shops on the daily, a kouign-amann is a caramelised, buttery sugary pastry similar to a croissant that was once described by The New York Times as “the fattiest pastry in all of Europe.”

When she’s not delighting in eating her favourite morning pastry, she’ll go for granola, yoghurt or toast, so she told Vogue magazine. But whatever Emily eats as her first meal of the day, she never goes without a black coffee.

Not one for plain old salads, Emily is a self-confessed meat lover.

She told Elle: “I’m a carnivore. I really like to eat meat. I crave iron so I am definitely not the kind of person who you will often find eating a plain salad. I like to keep it really balanced to give my body energy and also be healthy.”

Emily will often have catering provided if she’s on set, but says she's careful not to overload on food. She said: “I’m well behaved with that stuff. It’s easy to go crazy.”

When in Italy 🇮🇹

As an L.A. native, Emily is a juice fiend.

She said: “I do love turmeric and beet juices. It’s so L.A., you can’t avoid it.”

And if her Instagram account is anything to go by, the model is also partial to a glass of wine.

Emily loves relaxing and ordering takeout of an evening. “You should see my refrigerator. It’s insane,” she said in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel. “I have a relationship with Postmates. It’s basically Indian food and Thai food, preferably when I’m horizontal in bed.”

When she’s not stocking her fridge with takeout, Emily loves meeting up with friends for dinner in LA or cooking for herself.

“Dinner is my time to socialise,” she told Harper’s BAZAAR. “I love this Italian restaurant downtown called Bestia. It’s kind of fun, and they have good cocktails and wine.”

She added: “If I’m trying to be a little healthier, there’s Café Gratitude downtown. There’s [also] amazing sushi at this tiny place called Mako in Little Tokyo.”

Ratajkowski told Elle: “I wouldn’t say I am the type of girl who craves Doritos but I definitely love a good cupcake sometimes. You know what I mean? Or a croissant in the morning. I think it is really important to give yourself a break."

One place you won’t find Emily is the gym. She’s the outdoorsy type, who prefers to keep herself active through hiking and yoga. In 2016 she told InStyle: “I am not a big gym person. I really like being outside and doing yoga so I do a lot of hiking in LA and I have a yoga studio really close to my house that I go to like once a week.”

She also told The New York Times: “I don’t have a trainer…. I’m just not a crazy fitness person. I’m definitely an outlier in the industry.”
