Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder are HGTV hosts from hell in “The Curse” trailer

At first glance, The Curse looks a lot like your traditional home renovation show. Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone star as a cheery young couple who flip houses in their hometown, and the first full-length trailer has all your standard HGTV hallmarks, from cheesy voice-overs to swooping drone shots.

But there's something much darker — and much weirder — hiding below the surface. "This isn't your typical home-flipping show," Stone teases in the trailer. And boy, is she right.

Created by Fielder and Benny Safdie, The Curse is part bizarro renovation show, part unsettling comedy-thriller, following married couple Asher (Fielder) and Whitney (Stone) as they try to conceive a child while launching a house-flipping empire. They live in the small Southwestern town of Española, and they're chasing TV fame, buying up real estate to build ugly, mirrored structures (which tend to attract dead birds).

Safdie stars as their pushy TV producer, who urges Asher to give money to a young girl on camera. But as soon as the cameras stop rolling, Asher snatches his $100 bill back, and the girl hisses, "I curse you." Things get weirder from there, as Asher and Whitney navigate marital issues, unsettling gallery openings, and an apparent car crash.

The Curse is a co-production with A24, and it'll premiere Nov. 10 through Paramount+ with Showtime, before airing on Showtime on Nov. 12. Watch the new trailer above.
