Emmerdale airs upsetting Angelica update after sentencing

Emmerdale has aired an upsetting update for Angelica King following her sentencing.

Earlier this week, Angel was given an eight-month custodial sentence after pleading guilty to death by dangerous driving. The teen confessed to being behind the wheel when friend Heath was killed in a New Year car crash.

Before she left the village, Angelica apologised to Heath's father Bob Hope and handed him a letter — which Bob finally read to his family during Thursday's (March 14) episode.

"She says that her life will always be in two parts now, before and after," Bob read to Wendy and Cathy. "She says that a bit of her died too."

Bob later visited the Kings, to explain that he now understood that Angelica "losing a friend in the way that she did" has been unbearable. He asked the Kings to take Heath's jumper to Angelica when they next visit.

Nicola was seriously struggling throughout the episode, admitting to Jimmy that she couldn't stop worrying about what Angel might be facing inside the Youth Offenders facility.

"This is going to go one for months," Jimmy reminded her. "We have to find a new normal."

Unfortunately, any chance of Nicola finding that new normal was shattered when she got a desperate phone call from Angelica.

"I don't like it here, it's scary," Angelica admitted to her parents.

Nicola had to summon all her strength to assure Angelica that there was "nothing to be scared of".

"You walk tall and remember you're a King, and Kings, they're wise. They're brave. Kings are special," Nicola told her daughter.

When Angelica suddenly hung up the phone, Nicola and Jimmy consoled one another as they broke down in tears.

Cast member Nicola Wheeler recently confirmed that the Kings face difficult times as they adapt to Angelica being away from home.

"I don't think they'll cope well, but they do have Carl and Elliot to consider – they do have two other children," she told Digital Spy and other media recently.

"Initially Nicola starts to lash out because she can't cope but Jimmy gives her a stern talking-to and says: 'This is what it is. We have to deal with it'."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
