Emmerdale producer Iain MacLeod has been dropping hints about a massive storyline that is set to happen this autumn.

He took to Twitter and Instagram to answer questions about the soap and he spilled that there's something huge happening later this year – almost on par with last year's big car crash.

On Twitter, he said: "Remember last year when we did the big car crash? Well we're going for something that's going to every bit as interesting, even more different and unusual, so look out for that."

Sounds intriguing.

Heading over to Instagram, MacLeod revealed that although there will still be "visually engaging" stunts on the soap this year, they won't be anywhere as big as the car crash scenes.

It's probably a good thing really, we were nervous wrecks for the entire thing, we can't take any more stress.

He said: "I think we've got to be careful really, because last year we did such a massive - and in my view amazing stunt - in the run up to James's death that I don't really know how you'd top that.

"So we'll try and do stuff that's spectacular and interesting and visually engaging, but to try and top that, I think people would just go "here they go again".

"So our challenge is to do something that is just as brilliant and dramatic, but that's not copying what we've already done."

We'll take that.

Last year's epic scenes involved James Barton's death after suffering from a horrifying fall from a road bridge after being pushed off by his unstable wife Emma, which resulted in a terrifying pileup.

Emmerdale airs on ITV.
