'Emmerdale': Daisy Campbell opens up about Amelia's labour ordeal during terrifying storm
A storm rages across Emmerdale village tonight, and one character left in peril is pregnant teen Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell), who finds herself stranded as she goes into labour while on her way to meet boyfriend Noah Dingle (Jack Downham).
The ITV soap airs a dramatic instalment in an hour-long anniversary special tonight at 7pm. As Amelia calls dad Dan (Liam Fox) for help, her phone cuts off and Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) battles through the fierce wind to find her.

Meanwhile, Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) arrives at Home Farm in a panic, and Kim Tate (Claire King) heads out on her horse to join the search.
Speaking about Amelia’s terrifying situation, actor Campbell reveals all on the lead up to her alter ego’s ordeal.
“She wants to go on this beautiful picnic, because [she’s] never had a proper date before; and then obviously it takes a turn for the worse, the weather changes completely.
"The worst storm ever hits, and it all goes downhill from there, really.”

Discussing Amelia’s mindset at this point, the star adds: “She’s so confused when she goes into labour, because she doesn’t really know what it is at first.
"And then she clocks that it is what she thinks it is, and then obviously she’s on her own for a bit.”
Thankfully for Amelia, someone arrives on the scene as she takes shelter in a barn. “When Lydia comes I think it’s just a sigh of relief.

“I think because they’ve bonded a little bit more over her having this baby, and [the father] Samson not wanting to be part of it. She just feels a lot better when she’s got some support.”
Viewers will have to tune in to find out what happens next. But Campbell tells us how she prepared for the shocking scenes.
“When I was [filming] it I was like ‘I need to just go for it’. I was jogging, I was doing star jumps in between the takes. I was like ‘I need to be out of breath.’”
Making the storm look authentic took extra physical strength, but the actor was thrilled with the challenge.
“It felt like we were [shooting] a film, and I’ve got to say, I’ve said this to everyone at work but it’s [the] best filming day I’ve ever done. It didn’t feel like Emmerdale.
“They had these sticks screwed into the [barn] door, and the prop men had to literally rattle the door. Obviously a lot of the wind did that, because you had three massive wind machines outside, and we had one inside; and I had to be on it to make sure that it didn’t open up.”
Campbell also says she became so immersed in the storyline that the artificial weather felt like the real deal.
“I love filming intense stuff because it gives you more adrenaline. So I actually felt like I was in a storm; it actually sounded and felt like you were actually in a storm. It was absolutely crazy.”
Emmerdale celebrates its big milestone with a special programme: 50 Unforgettable Years, on ITV at 6pm tonight. This is followed by a gripping episode of the soap at 7pm.
