Emmerdale unveiled a dark Robert Sugden twist tonight (October 19) as he faked the death of Chrissie's uncle Tim Richards.

Viewers saw Tim (Mark Moraghan) make another return to the village last night – with his comeback conveniently coinciding with Robert's never-ending scheming.

In tonight's Emmerdale double bill, Robert decided to take advantage of Tim's desperation by giving him one last job to do in exchange for cash.

Given that Tim has lost everything, he allowed himself to be talked into a dark plan to drive straight for Chrissie in the road at high speed – with Robert aiming to jump in and save her at the last minute.

Thankfully, Robert's somewhat bizarre idea ran like clockwork as Chrissie was left believing that her ex had saved her life, and that Tim had tried to mow her down in a bid to kill her.

After promising a worried Chrissie and Lawrence that he'd take care of it, Robert headed over to meet Tim, but ended up taking a knife out on him when his new accomplice demanded more money.

Things then took an even darker turn when Robert later turned up at Lawrence's and confessed to killing Tim when the situation had got out of hand.

Shaken and covered in blood, a frantic Robert said that he'd murdered Tim and disposed of his body, leaving Lawrence terrified about what the repercussions will be for him.

With Lawrence panicking that his earlier public fight with Tim could implicate him as the killer, it was down to Robert to convince him that everything would be alright, and the pair vowed to keep Chrissie in the dark.

However, Robert's real intentions were later revealed when he was seen meeting up with Tim – who was alive, well, and preparing to head abroad with the money he'd earned.

"Have you ever heard of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer?" Robert answered when Tim quizzed him on what was really going on.

But with Robert refusing to give away his reasons at the moment, fans will just have to wait and see how the mysterious story unfolds. What exactly is Robert up to?
