A deeply troubling mystery is set to play out in Emmerdale.

In scenes airing next week, a horrified Jessie Dingle (Sandra Marvin) will be told that human bones have been discovered on the grounds of the local school.

An investigation is immediately launched, with Jessie have the unenviable task of having to prepare for a press conference to break the deeply disturbing news to the local population.

DI Bradwall is heading up the probe and has narrowed down the most likely candidate for the child's mother as 16-year-old Jenny Finn. Even more troubling - she has a striking resemblance to one of the villagers!

This grim plot will seemingly rule Jessie out as the victim of the shooting plot, which is playing out all throughout this week as the vengeful Max wreaks his revenge against Billy Fletcher and his family for selling out his criminal operation.

It will also give Jessie Grant a more prominent role in the ITV soap, following many complaints from viewers that she hasn't been more involved in the Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) grooming storyline.

Many viewers felt that the soap should have more actively involved Jessie in the fallout between Jacob and Maya since she's the headteacher at the school where the grooming was partially taking place.

Now that Jessie is stepping to the forefront of the soap, will she be able to help solve this grim school mystery?

Emmerdale currently airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
