Emmerdale star addresses fan support over Chas' cancer story

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter has responded to fans who've shared their personal stories after her character Chas Dingle was diagnosed with breast cancer.

In recent scenes, Chas discovered she has the same type of breast cancer her mum Faith Dingle died of. Ahead of Chas leaving the village with her daughter Eve for a short break, Pargeter took to Twitter/X to thank viewers who have shown their support in the wake of the hard-hitting storyline.

"Just want to first apologise for not replying to each of you who this story has personally connected with," she shared in her post. "I have read every one of your messages, but I'm finding it hard to read, learn lines and be a mum all at the same time at the moment. You are incredible."

In a follow-up post, she praised her fans who've had a similar experience to that of Chas for being an "inspiration".

"And I'm utterly rubbish, I'm sorry, you have the time to share your experience and your story with me, and I'm sending a general 'thanks', never time or space for the balance in life!!!! But you are all an inspiration and the reason for all of this," the soap star wrote.

Weighing in on Chas' diagnosis earlier this month, Pargeter said her character is "naturally very worried".

"Chas is completely thrown by this, sideswiped as it was just not something she was expecting him to say," she said of Liam Cavanagh urging her to get checked. "She is likely in denial. She doesn't want to face this."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
