'Emmerdale' stars tease 'heartbreaking' rift for Mandy and Vinny
There’s 'heartbreaking' Dingle drama ahead in Emmerdale, as Mandy discovers son Vinny’s secret marriage to Liv.
Speaking at a recent press event, star Lisa Riley explains that it all starts with Mandy in extreme planning mode for the happy couple’s ‘engagement’ party.
“You don’t want Mandy as the wedding planner,” Riley laughs, adding that Mandy and Chas (Lucy Pargeter) become 'the party planners from hell'.
Asked why Vinny decides to lie to his mum, actor Bradley Johnson says: “He’s had this perfect wedding day, and I just feel like he doesn’t want any more drama with his mum.
“We’ve seen how Mandy reacts to most situations, and it’s not subtle! He just doesn’t want her to take over.”

Riley says it’s devious relative Noah (Jack Downham) who reveals the truth to Mandy, when he spots an envelope addressed to ‘Mr and Mrs V. Dingle.’
“Noah is a complete and utter sneaky rat, and he knows exactly what he’s doing. He finds this letter and brings it to the salon. We open it and it’s Liv (Isobel Steele) and Vinny’s wedding certificate. Mandy is broken to the core,” she says.

The fallout sets the stage for a showdown in the salon. “It’s heartbreaking,” Riley tells us. “It’s Mandy and Vinny at their best, when they play the ultimate comedy and then they’ll tear you apart.
“The one person [Mandy] never ever believed would deceive her would be Vinny, and he’s done the worst, and it’s truly, truly heartbreaking.”
“Bradley plays it just beautifully. [Vinny] goes ‘yeah but Mum, I thought you’d want to organise your dress and your fascinator’. And she snaps: ‘is that all you see me as, just somebody who’s bothered about frocks and fascinators?’

“As soon as he mentions that, the light bulb goes off in her head,” she sighs. “She feels the only God-given reason Vinny would be so deceiving to her and cause her so much pain with this lie is because she’s not his [biological] mother.”
“Those scenes we shot in the salon were so beautiful,” adds Johnson. “The writers did a fantastic job of showing the emotion. Lisa was amazing; it really shows a different side to them as mother and son.
“The last thing Vinny wants is for Mandy to feel like she’s not his real mum, because she is all Vinny has ever known. Vinny wants to put it right and an idea springs into his mind,” he teases.
Riley adds that the friendship between Mandy and ex-husband Paddy (Dominic Brunt) will play a key role in these scenes.
“We’re going to be playing a lot of lovely stuff, and it’s Paddy who makes [Mandy] realise that actually when they were kids, and they were the same age, they were exactly the same as Liv and Vinny.”
You’ll have to wait and see whether Paddy’s words, along with Vinny's new plan, can persuade Mandy to repair her relationship with Vinny.
Emmerdale airs these scenes from Monday at the new time of 7:30pm.
