Emmerdale's Belle gets a nasty shock in baby storyline

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Belle King struggles further in Wednesday's episode (June 12) as her abusive husband Tom goes against her wishes over the baby.

Belle is disappointed when news of her pregnancy spreads around the village without her permission.

Earlier this week, Belle received a positive pregnancy test result and tried to keep the news to herself while she considered her options.

When evil Tom threatened to turn violent again, Belle blurted out her news to stop him from hurting her. Tom immediately changed his demeanour, but Belle felt trapped as he started to celebrate.

In the show's latest episode, Tom repeats his promises to change for the sake of their new baby. Belle starts to hope that Tom is sincere and that their marriage could still work out.

Later in the café, Tom reveals the baby news to his work colleague Rhona Goskirk. Before long, Tom's aunt and uncle Nicola and Jimmy know too.

Belle is furious when she arrives at the café and Jimmy rushes to congratulate her. She'd previously asked Tom not to tell anyone at such an early stage in the pregnancy.

Belle struggles with her privacy being invaded like this, but manipulative Tom tries his best to talk her round.

In the end, Belle decides that they might as well tell everyone else close to them. She tries to convince herself that everything will be okay – but is the worst still to come?

Eden Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle, explained: "Belle knew Tom would do this. I think that is why she just wanted to have some time – to put the brakes on a bit. She is aghast when she walks into the cafe and Jimmy, Nicola and Paddy are all congratulating her.

"Later Tom has booked her another appointment. Wendy is very surprised to see her again and I think queries what is going on. She tries to talk to Belle alone."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
