Emmerdale revisited the Jacob and Maya grooming storyline in tonight's (August 20) episodes as David Metcalfe made a new discovery about his son and the disgraced schoolteacher.

Despite Jacob's recent behaviour following Maya's trial, the teen appeared to be making good progress in tonight's (August 20) episodes, particularly when he began supporting Tracy (Amy Walsh) through the death of her father Frank.

But tonight's double bill also revealed that he still hasn't quite accepted that he was groomed and manipulated by the now-imprisoned Maya as the teen is still secretly planning for a future with her.

In tonight's episodes, Priya found Jacob in the cafe sitting on his own and asked him why he wasn't at the family barbecue that David had organised to try and cheer Tracy up.

"I guess I just don't know how to..." Jacob replied. "It's like everyone's determined to carry on like normal, like it never happened. But it did."

Eventually, Priya managed to persuade Jacob to go to the barbecue with her and he even joined in with a game of cricket too, seemingly making an effort to try and move on.

However, David is later left concerned when he received a phone call from the prison informing him that Jacob has been sending letters to Maya, suggesting that the teen's fixation on his abuser isn't over yet, despite his recent progress.

Maya received a 12-month jail sentence earlier this summer, after pleading guilty to sending inappropriate texts to Jacob when he was 15.

The schoolteacher avoided facing more serious charges for her abuse of Jacob as the schoolboy had refused to give any evidence against her.

Emmerdale currently airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with extra episodes at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
