Emmerdale's Mackenzie to defend Charity in police quiz

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Mackenzie Boyd loyally defends his wife Charity Dingle next week as he faces police questions over his stabbing.

Mackenzie becomes desperate to get Charity out of trouble as the police continue to investigate the recent incident in their family home.

Earlier this week, Charity suffered another night terror and had visions of Damon 'Harry' Harris, the gangster she killed in an accidental shooting at Christmas.

Charity lashed out at Mack with a knife, believing that she was acting in self-defence. Mack was left fighting for his life in hospital, but regained consciousness in the closing scenes of Friday's episode (February 23).

Next week, Mack's family members surround him at the hospital as a detective questions him about his ordeal.

Mack tells DI Rowe how the stabbing came about, but he firmly defends Charity and insists that she wasn't in control of her own actions.

Meanwhile, Charity is still in police custody and braces herself to be charged. However, the Dingles later learn that Charity has been released.

Once Charity is free, she sneaks into Mack's hospital room while he's asleep and quietly declares her love for him.

Charity then chooses not to tell her son Noah and granddaughter Sarah that she's back, instead opting to spend the night alone.

Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, recently told Digital Spy: "Charity and Mackenzie go in very opposite directions. Charity is in total shock to begin with. She wants to be charged for the accidental stabbing, because she just feels she's not in control of her own actions and she's terrified.

"Charity bolts everyone out of her life and home. She even tells Mackenzie to take the kids as she just doesn't feel responsible enough. She's frightened with what she might do. So she isolates herself and ostracises herself from her kids, Mackenzie and the wider family."

Emmerdale airs these scenes on Monday, February 26.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
