Emmys 2016: Sherlock star Amanda Abbington's handbag was stolen when she collected her award

Ooft, talk about a day of mixed emotions.

Actress Amanda Abbington has taken to twitter to slam the mystery person who nicked her handbag at last night’s Emmy Awards, with the star claiming that it was stolen from under her seat when she went up on stage.

Amanda joined the rest of her Sherlock castmates to accept the accolade for Outstanding Television Movie for Sherlock: The Abominable Bride, but when she returned to her seat in the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, her belongings had been moved.

She tweeted: “Thanks for the lovely tweets re; the Emmy’s. So pleased we won! Cool, right?

“However, we went up to collect the Emmy, did some press, came back to my seat and some b*stard had nicked my purse from under my seat. Nice.

“Had my phone and driver’s licence in it. So whoever took my purse, I hope some terrible Karmic sh*t happens to you. How cr*ppy is that?”

Amanda went on to add that she waited until everybody had left the building last night to check whether it had been handed into staff, but the bag was gone for good.

Replying to a fan who asked if it had been accidentally removed from her chair, the 42 year old wrote: “No, I hung around until everyone had left the auditorium. Nothing there.”

It is the norm for Emmy Awards producers to hire seat fillers to sit in empty chairs during the ceremony but it is not known whether somebody was sitting in Amanda’s seat when she went up to collect the award.

Amanda is married to her Sherlock co-star, Martin Freeman, but he did not attend last night’s ceremony.
