Enquiry launched after Ed Sheeran was hounded in hospital after arm-break

Ed Sheeran was hounded for photos and autographs by staff when he was admitted to Ipswich Hospital, which has prompted a review into the matter.

The BBC claim that the hospital staff pestered the singer for autographs and photo ops while he was there for treatment to a broken wrist and elbow in a biking accident that saw him forced to pull out of a number of dates on the Asian leg of his world tour.

A spokesperson for the hospital confirmed that an investigation had been launched in November – the month after Sheeran, 27, had visited for treatment.

Back on 16 October, Sheeran shared on his personal Instagram to his 21.4 million followers that he’d had ‘a bit of a bicycle accident’.

A follow-up post confirmed the injuries to his fans, saying that he was having to cancel his upcoming gigs which was unsurprisingly considering a Sheeran concert consists of him and him alone responsible for, well, everything audiences hear.

‘A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future,’ he revealed to distraught fans.

‘Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong. I’m waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that. Please stay tuned for more details. PS – Ed isn’t typing this as he has both arms casted/bandaged.’

The hospital, which reviews its staff, policies, and protocol every three years was due for renewal in November anyway, but it comes under even more scrutiny after Sheeran was admitted, with the hospital themselves adamant that they are to also review the treatment and car they give it ‘high profile’ patients.
