Every dog has its day.

And for Eric the Pekingese, that day was yesterday.

The dog from Moffat, Dumfriesshire may not have won the prestigious title of Best in Show at Crufts, but he won the hearts of something much more important… the internet.

Eric qualified for Sunday’s overall final after winning Best in Group for toy breeds last Thursday at the event in Birmingham.

He was denied overall glory at the 125th Crufts by a West Highland terrier called Devon, but Eric was the real star of the show.

He became a darling of social media, with Twitter users comparing him to everything from a pain au chocolat to Donald Trump’s hair.

Eric’s handler, Bert Easdon, told the Kennel Club: “Eric is a fantastic dog with a great character.

“I was going to retire him but decided to bring him back and this is his first show since Crufts last year.

“He’s a beautiful, sound and happy dog. After all these years I still get a real thrill when one of my dogs win.”
