Manchester United booked their spot in the FA Cup final after 120 minutes and penalties on the weekend, but Erik ten Hag will be hoping for a much more straightforward win when they host Sheffield United tonight.

After going 3-0 up, United were taken to extra-time and penalties in the FA Cup semi-final clash after drawing 3-3 with Championship side Coventry City. However, Erik ten Hag's eventually emerged victorious, winning 4-2 on penalties. The win was overshadowed by United's collapse in 90 minutes, but attention now turns back to the Premier League as Sheffield United visit Old Trafford.

The Blades have won once since December 9 in the league, with Chris Wilder's side currently bottom of the league and 10 points adrift of safety. Earlier this season, the meeting between the two sides saw United scrape past Sheffield United, with Diogo Dalot and Scott McTominay scoring in a 2-1 win.

So, could United pick up a first Premier League win since March 9? Let's take a look.

We simulated Man United vs Sheffield United to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 24 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions. We predict that United could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Onana; Dalot, Casemiro, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka; Mainoo, Eriksen, Fernandes; Antony, Hojlund, Garnacho.

We predict that the Blades could line up in a 3-5-2 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Gribic; Holgate, Ahmedhodzic, Trusty; Bogle, Hamer, Souza, Arblaster, Osborn; McBurnie, Brereton-Diaz.

It was a slow start from United, with Sheffield United testing Andre Onana multiple times early on with the hosts' backline looking shaky in the opening stages. The Blades' wingbacks were causing trouble for United, and in the 36th minute, they took the lead.

A one-two between Souza and Ben Osborn sent the latter to the byline, and his chipped cross to the back post was drilled through the legs of Onana by Gustavo Hamer to hand the visitors a surprise lead. United should've equalised just after the break when Rasmus Hojlund somehow fired over the bar from six yards out, and United were made to pay as the visitors grabbed a second.

Hamer whipped a corner towards Ben Brereton-Diaz at the front post, and the striker's header took a wicked deflection off Dalot's shoulder, causing the ball to loop over Onana and nestle in the net. It had been a horrible performance from United after 60 minutes, with Ten Hag bringing McTominay, Amad Diallo, and Marcus Rashford off the bench to try and find a way back into the game.

McTominay came close when his header from Bruno Fernandes' corner was fired against the post, but the visitors defended well to see out the 2-0 victory and extend United's winless run in the Premier League to five games.

It was a shock victory for the Blades, rock bottom of the Premier League and destined to drop back into the Championship. A similar scoreline in tonight's game for real would surely spell the end of Ten Hag's tenure.
