The tour guide will narrate the gripping tale of the Battle of Maldon, transporting you back to a time when Viking longships threatened the peace of the Saxon shores. As you stroll along the quayside, you will also encounter the striking statue of Byrhtnoth, a tribute to the Saxon hero who fought bravely against the Viking invaders. The tour culminates on a lighter note, with a fascinating short talk on the history of fish and chips in England, intertwined with the story of Maldon’s famous salt.To round off the experience, participants have the option to savour a meal of fish and chips or scampi at a charming 15th-century inn located on the quayside.

The tour starts at 6pm on Saturday, June 22, meeting at St Mary’s Lane in Maldon. The walk is a gentle two miles along pavements and is suitable for wheelchairs but not for those with walking difficulties.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, provided they are kept on a lead throughout the tour. Participants are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes to ensure an enjoyable experience.
