Estonian chicken sales fly after lockdown

Estonia’s chicken boom

When Estonians found themselves

cooped up at home

farmers were sure demand

for eggs and chickens would drop

To their surprise

they flew out the door

(SOUNDBITE) (Estonian) POULTRY FARMER, IVAR DUBOLAZOV, SAYING:

"I don't recall a year like this one, when so many people have called and been interested in chickens, turkeys, guineafowls. I don't recall a year like this one. And actually, people are interested in all kinds of birds. Brahmas, Cochins, Silkies, mixed blood chickens, you name it. I don't recall a year like this one and it is unbelievable, like some kind of a boom, a chicken-farming boom."

Chickens are becoming popular pets

for young families living in cities

They can also be rented

so people can try

before they buy
