Eurostar: Protester wearing St George's flag prompts travel chaos

Eurostar cancelled all trains in and out of London this morning after a trespasser spent all night on the roof of St Pancras Railway Station.

A 44-year-old man was arrested this morning for trespass and obstruction of the railway after police were called just after 7pm last night.

Eurostar, the company that runs trains between London, Paris and Brussels, says all services have now resumed, but added it would "still recommend you not travel this morning and please cancel your journey" or exchange tickets.

An image circulating on Twitter showed a man who appeared to be wearing a St George's flag.

MEP Molly Scott Cato tweeted: "Is this for real? A Brexit protestor preventing an MEP from leaving Brussels? Feels symbolic of the whole sorry, self-contradictory mess."

It is not known whether the trespasser was protesting over Brexit.

British Transport Police said officers were called last night just after 7pm to reports of a man "in a precarious position at St Pancras".

The cancellations caused wider disruption to other services in and out of St Pancras due to power to the overhead lines being switched off, meaning trains were unable to enter or leave the station.

Southeastern had to alter some journeys but has advised passengers they could use London Underground and Thameslink services instead at no extra cost.
