Eurovision Song Contest fans excited amid talk that UK could host 2023 competition

Eurovision fans could barely contain their excitement amid talk that next year’s contest may be held in the UK.

The much-loved event in traditionally hosted by the previous year’s winning country.

But this year’s event was won by Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, and the organisers have said it cannot be held there because of the ongoing conflict.

The UK was the runner up, with Sam Ryder taking second place.

And the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has now revealed it is in talks with the BBC for the UK to “potentially host” the 2023 contest.

Fans were thrilled to hear the UK could host the competition for what would be the ninth time.

“OH MY GOD,” one posted on Twitter, while another admitted: “I feel sick with excitement.”

“Sad for Ukraine, but great news for the UK,” someone else tweeted.

“PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE hold it in London and I might actually get a chance to go!!”

“I would literally give a kidney to go to Eurovision... ok, maybe a little toe,” quipped one Eurovision fan.

“I’m losing my mind over the potential that Eurovision is going to be in the UK,” said another.

Ryder was a big hit at Eurovision with his song 'Space Man' and topped the jury vote.

However, Kalush Orchestra wowed with 'Stefania' and went on to win overall after a show of public support.

Russia did not participate in this year’s song contest, which was held in Turin.

In February, the EBU said having a Russian entry at the 2022 event would "bring the competition into disrepute".
