Evangelos Marinakis has spoken out about the chaotic aftermath of Nottingham Forest's loss to Liverpool earlier this season.

Back in March, Forest were left incensed after their Merseyside opponents managed to escape the City Ground with a 99th-minute Darwin Nunez winner. The reason for such fury was because minutes prior at the opposite end of the field, referee Paul Tierney awarded an uncontested drop ball to Liverpool following a head injury while Callum Hudson-Odoi was in possession.

The reaction of Forest staff resulted in the club and coach Steven Reid - who was shown a red card after the final whistle - being charged by the FA. The cameras also picked up on Marinakis staring at the unsavoury scenes from the foot of the tunnel, having made his way down from the directors' box.

"I didn't storm on the pitch to confront the referee, all this was in the imagination of Sky and the others that said this," Marinakis insists as he downplayed the hubbub in an interview with the Mail Online.

Covering the match for the broadcaster's Soccer Saturday show, ex-Red Michael Dawson described it as 'absolute chaos'.

"I was there to show unity with the team, as I have done many times in the past, after a terrible [refereeing] decision," the Greek businessman added. "I was just stood outside the tunnel, the referee walked past and I didn't even look at him."

Protesting his innocence in the matter with one final definitive fact, he stated: "That's why the Premier League never even questioned me about this."

In a wide-ranging interview published on Tuesday, Marinakis has addressed further officiating controversies that took place at Everton, explained his stance on Gary Neville's reaction to that match and also gave insight into the future of the club at the City Ground.
