Everton goalkeeper agrees contract extension after loan spell success

Harry Tyrer has agreed a contract extension at Everton up until 2026..

The 22-year-old goalkeeper has been at the club since the age of seven and impressed at academy level. He spent last season out on loan with Chesterfield, where he helped the Spirites earn promotion back to the Football League with 11 clean sheets in 39 appearances.

“It’s a boyhood dream of mine to be at this club and it’s probably every Evertonians’ dream to be at this club,” Tyrer told EvertonTV after signing the new deal.

“I’ve worked hard this season and that’s come with a lot of rewards. Last season, it was Chester. This season, it was Chesterfield. I’ve grown up a lot in the lower leagues and I’ve definitely come on leaps and bounds as a goalkeeper.

“I’ve enjoyed it a lot. I’ve grown up as a young player. It’s been a positive learning curve and it’s been great winning the league and enjoying that.”

Tyrer also touched upon the influence Jordan Pickford has had on his career so far, with the youngster training frequently alongside the England No. 1 during his time at FInch Farm: ”His quality shows through in training and shows in games. He’s world class. He’s probably one of the best in the world right now.

“You just want to learn from him and learn what you can from him.”

Joao Virginia is currently the back-up to Pickford and has performed well when called up on this season in cup competitions. His contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025, meaning Tyrer could be sent out on loan again to further his encouraging development
