Leeds United are one of the few Championship clubs yet to confirm their retained list ahead of the 2024/25 season, with an announcement expected imminently.

The Whites are expected to see a number of their top performers leave this summer after failing to secure promotion to the Premier League following their Championship play-off final defeat to Southampton at Wembley last Sunday. Despite the result, Daniel Farke is said to have the backing of the hierarchy at Elland Road as he prepares for yet another promotion charge.

And those decisions have slowly begun to flourish, with Luke Ayling's exit confirmed after an eight-year stint in Yorkshire. The 32-year-old spent the second half of the campaign on loan with Middlesbrough and completed a permanent switch to Teesside earlier this week.

It leaves the club to discuss the futures with a raft of first team players who will see their deals expire at Elland Road at the end of this month. Liam Cooper is arguably the highest-profile name to feature on the list. There are also decisions to be made regarding Cody Drameh, Ian Poveda, Jamie Shackleton, Lewis Bate, and Sam Byram's futures.

But looking beyond next term, the cogs will be turning on decisions made on players who will see their deals expire in 2025. Just three players are currently out of contract next year, with one a first-team regular who has impressed during his time at Elland Road.

Junior Firpo arrived in Yorkshire in 2021 from Barcelona and was considered a coup for the Whites ahead of their second season in the Premier League. The Spaniard made 33 appearances for Farke's side having missed much of the first part of the campaign through injury.

The 27-year-old played a pivotal role in the Whites' automatic promotion hunt, providing eight assists including one in their play-off semi-final win over Norwich City. It seems likely that if Firpo is able to continue his form into next season that his Elland Road stay will be extended.

Kristoffer Klaesson is the next player to feature on the list and a player who has barely featured since his move from Valerenga in 2021. The 23-year-old has made most of his appearances for the Whites' Under-21s side, but did feature for Farke on two occasions in the Championship, keeping a clean sheet in a victory over Birmingham City.

But should Illan Meslier depart this summer, an opportunity could present itself to the Norwegian to stake a claim for a first-team spot. Another player who will be looking to do the same is striker Sonny Perkins.

The 20-year-old spent the first four months on loan at League One side Oxford United, but was recalled to Thorp Arch through a lack of game time at the Kassam Stadium. Perkins arrived from West Ham United with a great reputation within the academy set-up at the London Stadium, and has continued that form within Leeds' U21s.
