When the sun is shining, and you need an activity to keep the whole family happy, and cool, look no further than the Victoria Park splashpad in Cardiff. The council-run attraction is not only free, but fun for kids of all ages.

It includes sprays, jets, a huge tipping water bucket and tunnels and sprays for kids to run through in one of the city's prettiest parks. The splashpad will open for the 2024 season on Saturday, May 24.

When is it open?

The splashpad will open again on Saturday, May 25, 2024, and close on Sunday, September 1, 2024. There are different opening times and hours depending on whether it is term time or the holidays.

On weekends it is open 10am until 7pm, and in term times during the week the opening hours are 11am until 7pm.

In the school holidays, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, is it open 10am until 7pm and on Wednesdays from 11am until 7pm. There are relaxed sessions for children with additional needs on Wednesday between 11am and noon in term time, and 10am until 11am on Wednesdays in the school holiday.

Where is it?

Victoria Park is in Cardiff, postcode CF5 1JN. There is some free parking in the streets around the park but it can get very busy in the hot summer months. There are bus stops directly outside the park too. For money-saving tips, sign up to our Money newsletter here

Is there anywhere nearby to eat?

There are two coffee shops inside the park. There is Bloc, where you can also pick up coffees, cold drinks, cakes or snacks, and next to the splashpad is Mammas Place, where you can get hot food, as well as ice creams and cold drinks. Just across the road, there is the FIntans fish and chip shop, Pettigrew Bakeries for delicious French bakes, sandwiches and delicious sausage rolls, Let Them See Cake for a fancy treat. For something more substantial, you could pick up a brilliant burger from Ansh or pizza from 591 by Anatonis, both offer takeaway so can be tucked into at the park.

What else can you do there?

Next door to the splashpad are the play areas, with activities for a range of children, including, swings, slides, and a zip wire. The park itself has plenty of paths and routes to explore on bikes and scooters and a host of shady spots to enjoy a picnic.
