Ewan McGregor is apparently in line to play the grown-up version of Christopher Robin – Winnie the Pooh's best friend – in a new Disney film.

The Scottish actor is in talks to appear in the live-action movie to be directed by Marc Forster of Quantum of Solace and World War Z fame (via The Hollywood Reporter).

McGregor would star as the older Robin who has lost his sense of childhood fun, now a businessman focussed on work and success.

Disney is bringing in Hidden Figures's Allison Schroeder to rewrite a script from Alex Ross Perry, with Tom McCarthy having also worked on a later draft.

Christopher Robin – named after Winnie the Pooh writer A.A. Milne's son Christopher Robin Milne – originated as a character in Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, both written in the 1920s.

Disney previously adapted Milne's stories into 1988 series The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Winnie the Pooh, an animated film released in 2011.

The Jungle Book's Brigham Taylor is to produce the project, so it's definitely in safe hands.

Ewan McGregor was most recently seen in Disney's remake of Beauty & The Beast as the candelabra Lumiere.

He has also returned to our TV screens in a dual role in the third season of Fargo, which has already received rave reviews.
