Ewan McGregor's estranged wife Eve Mavrakis slams his controversial Golden Globes' speech

Ewan McGregor’s acceptance speech at last week’s Golden Globes’ Awards sparked controversy when he thanked both his estranged wife, Eve Mavrakis, and his alleged new girlfriend and co-star, Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Now Eve has reportedly responded to the speech, admitting that she “did not like” what Ewan had to say.

Ewan won the best actor in a limited series Golden Globe for his role as twins Emmit and Ray Stussy in Fargo, and when asked what she thought of the speech, Eve is said to have told the Daily Mail: “No, I did not like his speech.”

When asked what she didn’t like about it, the 51-year-old actress added: “For the same reasons you are here asking me about it.

“I am not going to say anymore.”

Collecting the gong on 7 January, Ewan said: “I want to take a moment to just say thank you to Eve, who always stood by me for 22 years, and my four children Clara, Esther, Jamyan and Anouk.

“I’ve always loved being an actor and I love hanging out with actors and I got amazing actors to work with on this.

“There wouldn’t have been Emmit Stussy without David Thewlis and Michael Stuhlbarg and Carrie Coon and there wouldn’t have been a Ray without Mary Elizabeth Winstead.”

At the Critics’ Choice Awards just days later, Ewan omitted Eve from his Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie acceptance speech – kissing Mary as he made his way up to the stage to accept the award and thanking her.

Ewan hit the headlines in October when he was pictured kissing Mary Elizabeth in a London diner, despite being married to Eve.

It was later reported that Eve had been left “furious” by Ewan’s fling, with sources adding that she is “convinced” that the pair had an affair behind her back.

It was previously claimed that Ewan told Eve that he had feelings for his 32-year-old co-star back in May, however, he insisted that nothing had happened between them.

An insider added: “Eve is sure Ewan and Mary were together before he confessed his feelings for her. It is hard for her to believe him.

“This situation is extremely difficult for her and their four children.”

Eve had welcomed Mary Elizabeth into her and Ewan’s family home after she was cast alongside her husband in the US TV show.

Ewan and Mary Elizabeth started filming Fargo in Calgary, Canada, in January, with Ewan and Eve’s marriage said to have “abruptly” hit the rocks over the summer, with it reportedly “clear” that the pair had grown close when Ewan returned home from shooting.

An insider revealed: “Eve wanted to work through it but a month later it was clear Ewan had made his decision. Eve was his love and supported his career.

“They think he might be having a mid-life crisis and that is why he is pursuing his relationship with Mary at the expense of his family.”

Shortly after news of the scandal broke, oldest daughter Clara appeared to publicly side with her mother, posting a photo of Eve with Ewan cropped out to Twitter, writing: “How frickin gorgeous is my mama?? Strongest, smartest most loving woman I know. My rock.”

She later shared a New Year’s family photo with Ewan noticeably missing from the image, captioning the snap: “My lil family of women thank you @evemcgregor123 we owe it all to you.”
