What did you miss?

Viewers said they were thrilled to see former BBC Breakfast host Louise Minchin back on their screens as she filled in for Lorraine Kelly.

The presenter - who worked on the BBC morning show for 20 years before leaving in 2021 - popped up on Friday's instalment (20 October) of Lorraine, which airs on rival ITV.

And fans missing her on the red sofa were delighted to see her back on morning television.

What, how, and why?

Minchin announced her hosting slot on social media, telling her followers: "This is exciting!"

Sharing a snap on X of Kelly's coffee cup, she joked: "Back on early morning telly today, standing in for the brilliant @reallorraine and I have borrowed her mug!"

Viewers said how much they had missed seeing the 55-year-old and said she did a great job.

"What a lovely surprise to see you hosting Lorraine today, you were brilliant, warm and authentic as ever," one posted.

"The best news ever," said another.

"You have been missed from my mornings."

"I have missed you on the telly box," said another.

"You are smashing it."

"Morning nice to see you on TV this morning," said another.

One couldn't help joking about the star making her morning TV return on ITV rather than the BBC, teasing: "Didn't take you long to defect to ITV then."

When did Minchin leave BBC Breakfast?

Minchin stepped down from BBC Breakfast in June 2021, having started on the programme in 2002.

"Let me take a deep breath, everybody there is something I want to tell you about," she told viewers.

She went on: "I've loved being part of it but – there is a but – I've decided that is time that I stop setting my alarm for 3.40am – sometimes if I'm feeling really rebellious 3.46am – in the morning and I'm going to be leaving the programme."

She thanked fans and said how much she had loved being a part of the programme, but added: "It's time now to stop that alarm early in the morning."
