Liam Rosenior has shot to the top echelons of the betting for the vacant managerial role at Norwich City just hours after David Wagner was sacked following last night's play-off semi-final humiliation at Leeds United, and so too, Birmingham City.

Wagner's 15-month tenure at Carrow Road came to an abrupt end with a 4-0 hammering against the Whites and ex-Hull City chief Rosenior has gone straight in as third choice at 11/2 according to BetIdeas behind Will Still and Steve Cooper, though the latter has already ruled himself out.

Rosenior was linked with the Plymouth Argyle job earlier this week but is thought to have rejected that idea, and has previously been linked with a move to Sunderland, along with Birmingham City.

The Blues, who were relegated to League One on the final day of the season, are expected to part with Tony Mowbray as he continues to recover from illness and Rosenior has now been linked with the St Andrew's job.

Rosenior, who lost his job at the MKM Stadium last Tuesday, spoke for the first time since his City exit on Wednesday and admitted it was an honour to be in charge of a club he represented with distinction.

"It has been an honour, a joy and a pleasure to lead a football club that I love for the last 18 months," he said in a statement through the League Managers Association (LMA).

“I would like to thank every member of staff, every player I worked with, every fan who supported us on the journey and also to Acun Ilicali and Tan Kesler for believing in me enough to give me the opportunity to manage Hull City.

“I take immense pride in the massive progress and growth of the club in this period, both on and off the pitch, and the small part I played in it. I genuinely hope that the hard work of everybody at the football club continues to move things in an upward trajectory.

Working with Acun, Tan and his football brain team has been an incredible learning experience and with the passion, energy, determination and hard work they have put into this club, I am sure they will get the vision and success that they crave in the long term.

“Seeing the team and players develop, improve and grow in an 18 month period, in a style that we believed in, has been amazing and I have enjoyed every moment of working with an outstanding group of people who gave me trust, spirit and togetherness, not just in games, but in every single training session that we worked in. Great people who I have loved being around. Always together.

“Every member of staff gave their all to assist the players and me in this process and for that I am truly grateful. It was a joy to come to work every day. Special people who created a special environment. Thank you.

“And to the fans. Thank you. For your passion, for your support and the love you gave to me and the lads, home and away.

“Standing on the touchline representing you in the Amber and Black will stay with me forever.

“Up The Tigers!”
