Hull City have everything still to play for in their quest for a place in the Championship play-offs, but will just miss out, according to ex-Sheffield United and Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom.

City must win at relegation-threatened Plymouth on Saturday afternoon and hope Preston cause an upset by beating West Brom at The Hawthorns.

The omens aren't great for that happening in truth, after Ryan Lowe's side were swept aside 3-0 by Leicester City on Monday night at Deepdale to secure the Championship title. And Heckingbottom believes Carlos Corberan's stuttering Baggies will just have enough to see themselves safely through.

The Tigers' terrific display in drawing 3-3 with Ipswich Town on Saturday kept their hopes alive, while the Tractor Boys' win at Coventry on Tuesday means Liam Rosenior's men cannot finish any lower than seventh, with Heckingbottom suggesting that's where they'll stay.

"They've got one game left and everything, their season's on that game now," he said on Sky Sports. "They have made strides this season, they've improved again, but he just wants that feel-good factor going into the last game.

"Everyone at the club - a similar situation to Ipswich - has still got everything to play for, and it would be that positive message. Positive mindset all week and one last 90 minutes.

"The play-offs will look like that (is it currently stands), I think. Norwich are in the driving seat, and Birmingham are going to be scrapping for everything, but either way, I think there's only one goal in that.

"West Brom have got the business against Preston and Hull are going to Plymouth, again, another team scrapping just like Birmingham, so they're not gonna be easy games at all."
