Exact location where footage captured possible sighting of Jay Slater revealed as family revisit remote village in desperate search

The exact location where missing Jay Slater may have possibly been caught on CCTV cameras has been revealed, as his family revisited the remote village to continue putting up appeal posters.

The 19-year-old, from Lancashire, vanished last Monday (June 17) after staying at an Airbnb in the remote village of Masca, in north west Tenerife.

It’s thought he rang his friend to explain his phone battery was on one percent before ‘walking off alone’ uphill, further up into the ‘treacherous’ mountains.

Jay, who had been to the NRG festival the night before with friends before travelling over 30km to the remote Airbnb rental with two men he is thought to have met at the music event, has not been heard from since.

Now in its eighth day, the major search, covering a vast 30km area over mountains and steep ravines, is continuing across the Rural de Teno park. Local police told the M.E.N at the search base that there had been “no developments”.

Jay’s family previously told the Manchester Evening News that there had been another potential sighting of the 19-year-old, which is now being probed by police.

CCTV footage captured a man, that they claim matches Jay’s description, walking through a church square in the small village of Santiago del Teide.

The potential sighting is yet to be confirmed by local police or the Civil Guard. The village is situated about 7km away from Masca and the area where Jay is said to have disappeared.

The open church square is covered by a CCTV camera above the door of the nearby town hall. The Parroquia de San Fernando Rey church is situated in the centre of the village, close to the turning for the steep road through the mountains towards Masca.

The walk, which involves steep terrain and windy roads, would take between two and three hours directly from Masca. The potential sighting was said to have been captured on footage at around 6pm on Monday - around 10 hours after Jay was last heard from.

In the village of Santiago del Teide, Jay’s dad Warren among other family members once again returned to hand out more missing posters and put them up in shop windows.

Local police were seen in the village on Monday afternoon, and appeared to be conducting enquiries and following up the lead.

One shop owner said the landscape around Masca is “extremely dangerous” - but said she hadn’t seen Jay or been spoken to by police.

“For me, I feel bad. Because, he’s a young guy and what happened, shouldn’t have happened, she said.

“He should have been a little more aware of the fact that you can’t go [on that walk] alone.”
