Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson has hinted that fans can expect Brendan Brady to feature in the show's Hollyoaks Favourites rerun series.
The show is about to start repeating classic episodes on E4, after cutting its weekly output of new instalments due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Kieron and former Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter (Theresa McQueen) have both been brought on board to introduce the reruns.
For the foreseeable future, Hollyoaks will air new episodes twice a week on Mondays and Tuesdays. Fortunately, viewers can still get their fix every weeknight, with Hollyoaks Favourites airing at 7pm on E4 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
The first two Hollyoaks Favourites, airing tonight and tomorrow, focus on Mercedes McQueen's dramatic wedding to Doctor Browning. This was originally screened in 2013.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Kieron explained: "I think Hollyoaks Favourites is an incredible idea. Even if we weren't going through what we're going through now, just the fact that we're in our 25th year means that anything to celebrate the history of the show is a good idea.
"The fact I get to do it with Jorgie – even though we're not appearing on screen together – is great too. She's such an iconic character from the history of the show."
On the choice of episodes that might appear, Kieron laughed: "I've had so many messages about this. I haven't been in storylines for so long, but I'm used to people messaging me saying things like: 'Stay away from Ray Quinn!'
"I've not had that for quite a while, but now people are saying: 'Tell them to put this episode on! Bring back Brendan!'
"The first few episodes are a celebration of the characters that are still in the show now. Even though they're a back catalogue of episodes, they feature the cast members that are still in Hollyoaks.
"But the longer it goes on, the further we'll go back into the episodes. I've had a lot of messages about this and I'm sure there'll be a Brendan episode in there somewhere…"
Kieron also named some of the other episodes he'd like to see on screen again.
He said: "One of my personal favourites, which I'm not even in, is the pub exploding nearly 15 years ago now. The episode started with five body bags on the floor. I'd only just got the job myself back then, but I felt from that episode on, it was like a new era of Hollyoaks where everyone started talking about it again.
"Another favourite of mine is the Brendan and the teacup episode – I think die-hard fans will know which episode I'm on about there!
"I also love anything with Clare Devine in it."
Hollyoaks Favourites launches tonight at 7pm on E4.
