An Exclusive Look at Shakira’s Carolina Herrera Met Gala Dress

Making her Met Gala debut on Monday, Shakira worked with Wes Gordon and the team at Carolina Herrera on a custom look.

The result was a strapless crepe column gown in signature ‘’Herrera Red with a sculptural rose-shaped cape of 30 meters in silk gazar. The look was worked on by Carolina Herrera’s three lead female pattern makers, who collaborated to bring the vision of this dress to life, each contributing to the piece in their own area of expertise: Oksana specialized in the bra/bustier, Koko specialized in the column structure, skirt and Amy specialized in tailoring and the sculptural rose cape.

To accessorize, Shakira carried a ‘Herrera Red’ silk satin draped clutch,” the fashion house said in a statement.

Explaining their inspiration, the Carolina Herrera team said that “the simplicity of the structured silhouette matched with the grandeur of the cape is a testament to the skill and expertise of the decade-spanning atelier – our very own ‘Garden of Time.'”
