Prime Video has released a new look at upcoming John Wick spinoff series The Continental: From the World of John Wick, which teases new trouble at The Continental hotel.

The image, which was shared exclusively with the Evening Standard, sees the return of Charon, the concierge of the famous chain of hotels used as a base by Wick during the films. In the photo, he is as immaculately dressed as ever (and drinking a cup of tea, from the looks of things), but flanked by two rather ominous, leather-clad hitmen. Who are they? We are yet to find out.

Charon was played in the films by the late Lance Reddick, but the new show – which will be set in 1970s New York – sees Ayomide Adegun take on the role opposite Colin Woodell, who will be playing his on-screen friend Winston Scott (played in the films by Ian McShane).

Though Winston is the owner of the New York Continental in the films (Charon is his right-hand man), the trailer, which was released in early August, shows them at the start of their journey. In it, Winston appears to be nothing more than a hitman for hire. But then his brother Frankie steals something from the hotel’s then-owner, Cormac – played, in a bizarre casting choice, by Mel Gibson. Cormac threatens to bring the might of the Continental down on both of them if Winston doesn’t retrieve both his brother and the item.

Instead, he starts putting together a plan to bring down the entire hotel… bringing together a rag-tag bunch of hitmen that might just include Charon too. These include newcomers Miles (Hubert Point-Du Jour), Lou (Jessica Allain) and Lemmy (Adam Shapiro).

Are there creepily-dressed assassins waiting around every corner to take them down? Of course. Are there explosions? Naturally. Even judging by the trailer, it looks as though the show’s creators are determined to match the levels of action-based insanity from the films.

The Continental itself has an interesting history in Wick lore. Though it appears to be a chain of luxury hotels, it also functions as neutral ground and a sanctuary for criminals, meaning that it is often frequented by assassins, hitmen and criminals of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, the hotel forbids killing on its grounds – not that this stopped it becoming a battleground during the events of John Wick 3, where the High Table attacked the New York branch and killed all of its inhabitants (if you don’t know what this means, it might be time to invest in some copies of John Wick 1 through 4).

All of which is to say: expect some epic hand to hand combat when the show launches on Prime Video on September 22.
