The general election 2024 exit poll has forecast a landslide victory for the Labour party. The forecast, released when polling stations closed at 10pm, has predicted Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Party will win 410 seats in Parliament.

That would give the party a 170-seat majority over the Conservatives, who are forecast to win just 131 seats. If this turns out to be correct it would be the worst-ever election result for the Tories.

The exit polls also put the Lib Dems on 61 and Reform UK on 13. Results across the UK are now being counted with the first seat expected to be declared at around midnight.

Exit polls take place at about 144 polling stations across the country, with tens of thousands of people asked to privately fill in a replica ballot as they leave, to get an indication of how they voted. They are carried out by Ipsos UK for Sky News, the BBC and ITV News.

The accuracy of exit polls seems to have improved over time. In 2019, the exit poll predicted a Conservative majority of 86 seats, which was very close to the final 80-seat margin of victory.
