Experts push for rooftop solar revolution at Hampshire conference

The inaugural Rooftop Solar Conference 2024 shed light on how solar energy could revolutionise Hampshire's future.

The Centre for the South organised the conference on June 14 where Alan Whitehead, former MP for Southampton Test and former Shadow Minister (Climate Change and Net Zero), stressed rethinking plans towards optimising rooftop solar energy potential.

A key point was adapting planning policies and achieving a rooftop revolution in an equitable and balanced way.

Roger Mortlock, chief executive of CPRE National, advocated for increasing the contribution of rooftop solar from 40 percent to 60 percent by 2025 in order to preserve green spaces.

Presenters from the University of Southampton presented their latest research where the projects aim to provide community groups with information on the potential for rooftop solar PV installations in the area.

Alison Talbot, chief executive officer of CPRE Hampshire, hailed the conference as a ‘huge step forward’, stressing Hampshire's potential for a rooftop revolution.
