Loud explosions have been heard as Nottinghamshire Police continue to deal with a suspicious package in Lenton. The force originally said it had been called to reports of a suspicious package on Allington Avenue at 2pm on Friday (June 28).

Emergency services have been in attendance ever since, though the centre of activity has since moved to Park Road. The cordon near the bottom of Park Road has now effectively been extended after two loud explosions were heard in quick succession at around 9.25pm.

People assembled outside the nearby Tesco Express screamed as the explosions went off and police officers immediately ordered people to move much further away from Park Road. A police drone remains in the sky above the property where all the activity now appears to be.

Fire engines, police vans, police cars and a bomb disposal unit are all at the scene. A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: "This is an ongoing incident and we’re dealing with it as a major incident, alongside other emergency services, and will be providing further regular updates on our website and social media. Residents are urged to avoid the area at this time and we’d like to thank them for their patience and understanding."
