The highly-anticipated drama series based on the hit video game Fallout has finally premiered on Amazon Prime Video. The eight-parter dropped on the streaming service on Tuesday (April 10).

The post-apocalyptic role-playing game first launched 27 years ago and has since evolved into an action role-playing game with a number of sequels. The TV show is set 200 years after the apocalypse, and follows so-called Vault Dwellers who live in luxury fallout shelters.

But they soon learn some hard truths as they step back into the real world. The story is separate from the original game's narrative.

Fallout's description reads: "Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them."

Yellowjackets' Ella Purnell stars as Lucy, an optimistic Vault Dweller whose peaceful and idealistic nature is tested when people harm her loved ones. Aaron Moten plays a young solider with a tragic past while Walton Goggins is The Ghoul, who survives the wasteland as a Bounty Hunter.

The creators of sci-fi hit WestWorld, husband and wife duo Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, serve as executive producers on the series. Jonathan, who also created the CBS science fiction series Person of Interest and the short-lived sci-fi series The Peripheral on Amazon Prime Video, directs all eight Fallout episodes.

We take a closer look at the Fallout cast - and where you might've seen them before...

Who is in the Fallout cast?

Ella Purnell stars as Lucy. The 27-year-old Brit is perhaps most recognisable as teenage Jackie in the 2021 psychological drama Yellowjackets. Fallout isn't the star's first gaming adaptation, either.

The star, from London, previously appeared in Netflix's Arcane, an adaptation of the League of Legends video game. She is also known for her roles in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Kick-Ass 2 and as the lead role of Tess in Starz' Sweetbitter, the adaptation of Stephanie Danler's hit novel of the same name.

Aaron Motem, from Austin, Texas, stars as Maximus. He made his acting debut in the 2006 film Sticks and Stones before going on to appear in NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service and Meryl Streep's Ricki and the Flash.

He also appeared in Steven Zaillian's The Night Of as Petey and in action drama Next as Ben. More recent roles have included Knowles in 2022's Emancipation and Ham in Father Stu alongside Mark Wahlberg.

Walton Goggins is The Ghoul. The critically-acclaimed actor made his debut in the 1990 TV movie Murder in Mississippi. Just some of his major credits include Them That Follow, where he starred opposite Olivia Colman, as well as the Tomb Raider reboot in which he portrayed villain Mathias Vogel.

The actor also appeared in Disney and Marvel's Ant-Man And The Wasp as Sonny Burch. Other notable roles include Detective Shane Vendrell in crime drama series The Shield, as well as Wade Felton in TV series The Unicorn - which he also executive produced.

Moises Arias is Norm MacLean, Lucy's brother. Anyone who watched the Disney child will most definitely know who he is - although they might not recognise him, with the star having completely transformed since them.

Moises used to play Rico Suave, the floppy-haired nuisance and manager of Rico's Surf Shop on Hannah Montana. He also lent his voice for an episode of Phineas and Ferb and appeared in both The Wizards of Waverley Place and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

His more recent projects include the films Divinity, American Murderer and Samaritan.

All eight episodes of Fallout are available to stream now on Amazon Prime Video.
