Fally Mayulu makes Bristol City promise as he becomes Robins' first summer addition

New Bristol City striker Fally Mayulu has promised to “give everything” to the Robins after completing his £2.5million switch from Rapid Vienna, subject to international clearance.

Mayulu has signed a four-year contract at Ashton Gate and becomes the club’s first addition of what is increasingly shaping up to be an exciting transfer window for City ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season.

The 21-year-old is leaving Rapid, historically Austria’s biggest club, after just one season in which he found the target 11 times and added three assists in 35 appearances, having starred previously for BW Linz in the second tier.

Mayulu was previously with the Lens and Wolfsburg academies and had a trial at Paris Saint-Germain when he was a teenager, where his younger brother Senny plays.

A tall, quick and skillful forward, Mayulu should meet his new teammates at the High Performance Centre this week before joining the rest of the squad at their training camp in Portugal which starts at the end of the week.

Mayulu has at least allowed himself to be familiarised to his new surroundings over the weekend having flown to Bristol on Friday to undergo his medical at the HPC.

“It feels very good. I have waited for this moment and it’s a good achievement for me so I’m very happy,” said Mayulu, who conducted his interview in English. “I know that this is a good club with a good history, and I’ve also heard good things about the city and the fans. I think this is the right place to be.

“I just want to give everything for the club. I want to give back to the fans and to the team. I will give everything and we’re going to see.

"It's been very fast this last week but now I'm here, so let's get started. I always like English football, it's tough football, I enjoy running a lot so I think it's going to be good for me and I can't wait to start the games.

"I'm a simple person, I'm very kind to everyone. I enjoy the life. As a football player, I like to word hard, run, jump and obviously I like to score."

City are understood to have agreed a package up to £2.5m with Rapid, with interest in Mayulu growing from across Europe. Although a tall striker, his attributes lie away from the conception of that sort of striker, with the Frenchman possessing outstanding pace and acceleration and also awareness of others when the ball is at his feet.

He will be a “project player” of sorts, as he adapts to a new city, country, way of life and the demands of the Championship, but brings some extra to a Robins attack which, by head coach Liam Manning’s admission, did seem one-dimensional at times last term due to the similarities of Tommy Conway and Nahki Wells as his only real options.

“Fally is a player we’ve kept an eye on for some time and one we’re thrilled to be able to bring him to the club," said technical director Brian Tinnion. "He’s the exact profile of player we’ve been looking for and we are excited to see him develop with us.”
