Falmouth care home residents go back in time to celebrate VE Day

A Falmouth care home celebrated the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day with an afternoon tea party.

Falmouth Court Care Home took guests back to the 1940's, with residents and staff donning their nostalgic outfits.

Red, white and blue decorations adorned the home, creating a lively atmosphere of celebration.

Everyone was treated to an array of food made by head chef Jon Moyle.

He prepared an exquisite selection, that included freshly-baked scones with jam and cream, sandwiches, cakes and pastries.

To accompany the food, there were lots of pots of tea and a celebratory glass of fizz.

The event was uplifted by live music from Andy the Crooner, who entertained everyone with classics such as New York, New York by Frank Sinatra and Mack the Knife by Bobby Darin.

As a memorable conclusion to the event, Chaz Weymouth, president of Penryn's Royal British Legion, gave a talk to the residents.

Sharing the sentiments of the day, Falmouth Court's general manager, Haley Reeve-Larson said: "Many of our residents can remember the end of the war and we all know what it meant for our country so we wanted to celebrate the date and listen to our residents memories of the war and the experiences they lived through.

"We had the added bonus of holding the event in the garden to enjoy the sun too".
