Families bid loved ones farewell at Indonesian plane crash site

The family members were taken to the site of the crash, just off the coast of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, by an Indonesian naval ship, where they scattered flower petals into the sea and held prayers.

"To be honest, I remembered my brother's face when I was scattering the flowers and tears kept flowing, as if his face was reflected on the ocean surface. We are feeling hurt and sad now," said Heri Purnomo, whose brother's body has yet to be found.

Sriwijaya Air said it would compensate victim families $89,000 per passenger who died, Indonesian transport minister Budi Karya Sumadi announced in a visit to port on Wednesday (January 20).
